If you thought these things only happen
in the epl, how wrong. Running riot over her opponent and showing
no signs of saving its enemy from humiliation - Xiang received the
ball just after the halfway line, looked up, and curled his shot meticulously
over the keeper and into the top left corner. Sheer class. It was
by no means the only highlight of the day, if anyone tried to compile
a highlights video of some sort, it would easily span 45 minutes.
Jeremy used all of his fellow attackers as decoys and glided through
the hapless defense, rounded the keeper and added his name to the
score sheet. Wang Di is slowly getting back to his blistering best,
leaving defenders wondering how else to mark him besides taking him
down. The Team worked together, defending in numbers when needed and
gets another clean sheet onboard. In Benedetto we cherish clean sheets
as much as how many goals we can score and we would put our bodies
on the line to defend the clean sheet.
Coincidentally, the fantastic run of results have come together with
the more than ideal consistent attendance. With two player fighting
for every position, no let ups are allowed. When Wei Liang is losing
his cool on the pitch, able Abel (try saying that 10 times) is kicking
his heels on the sidelines waiting to show his teammate how it should
be done. The effort is unquestionable, the desire to win unquenchable
and the Team Spirit makes it all possible. For now, Cheers! Onwards

There was absolutely no positives to take
from this game. Outplayed by a Team of experienced and fit veterans,
they seem always comfortable on the ball and never disturbed by our
hassling and closing down. 100% effort, 0% game play; Benedetto United
was without doubt taught a footballing lesson and a hard one too.
It is not often that Benedetto fire blanks, even less often that opponents
put four past us without any sort of reply. Alas, we always work to
pick ourselves up right from the same spot we fell. Onwards Benedetto~!

We lost our third league match in a row
as we succumbed to a 2-1 defeat. The first half was goalless as Benedetto
kept things very compact and were quick to close the opponents down.
We had half chances through Yue Kai and Desmond but both failed to
convert. This was a significantly better performance since Benedetto's
winning streak came to a halt a month ago; and satisfaction was already
seen on several players' faces.
However it all went pear shaped in the second half as Kampong 81 scored
in quick succession to make it 2-0, both goals coming from corners.
Surely, its back to the drawing board again. Newcomer Dong Xiang score
a great goal from an acute angle to make it 2-1 to mark his guest
appearance. The cross came from 1st vice captain Jaemes as he marauded
down the left. This marked the third successive defeat in a row. Maybe
the comfortable and sometimes flattering victories got to our head,
or maybe we were still adapting to life as favorites in games having
been the underdogs since time immemorial. Though we lost the game,
this was a game that reminded some if not all of us how we were suppose
to approach a game mentally. We never gave up. Desmond chased from
his striker's position to our own penalty box, won possession and
played the ball forward as we seek the equalizer. Just one of the
several positives that could be taken from the game. Never let things
get to your head, the moment a player thinks he is good enough - that's
the moment he starts to deteriorate. Onwards Benedetto~! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Recalled

Kudos to the Team for never giving up,
for the galactic second half performance. If there is any Team that
never knows when to give up, it's Benedetto United. If there is any
Team that can squeeze out the very essence of Team spirit and effort
despite going down 4-0 during half time, it has to be Benedetto United.
All I can say is, the damage was done in the horrendous opening ten
minutes. The defense was unrecognizable as we continued our poor defensive
form, leaking in the most goals in one match ever. Defensively, things
will have to put right immediately. We have let the Team down once
too often in recent weeks. We know what needs to be done and we will
do it. Onwards Benedetto~! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With last week's sham still fresh in our
memories, the Team worked our socks off, giving our opponents no time
on the ball and got off to the perfect start when Wen Hao finished
at the far post after a low cross was driven in from the right flank.
Relief was evident on Wen Hao's face as he ended his four games goal
drought. According to him, "I store up power. Then go on
another long scoring streak." Fine words from our young
striker who will soon enough be nicknamed Messy (not Messi)
for his new hair look.
Aaron did well to divert a dipping freekick over his bar; making an
effort to arrive early for extra personal training seem to have raised
his game a little. The break came with Wen Hao's solitary goal the
only difference between the two sides. While the Team deserved credit
for carving out chance after chance and at the other end restricting
the opponents to wild tries from long range, there were times where
many felt we really need to take our chances to kill off the game.
We seemed to start the second half very sluggishly. There was no shape
in the team and numerous passes went astray. Teammates were challenging
for the same ball and communication was thrown out of the window.
Against the run of play, we earned a freekick near the corner flag
from a quick breakaway. Almost undeservedly, the second goal came
courtesy of James. He did well to time his run perfectly to the far
post and when the opponents failed to deal with Bryan's testing cross,
our goal-happy manager was never going to give up the opportunity
as he blasted it past the Redbacks goalkeeper to make it 2-0. As expected,
celebrations are always wilder than usual when we have a rare goal
scorer. Harsh words said moments ago turned into hugs as James celebrated
the goal with Bryan who created the chance. Bryan mumbled to James
with a grin, "You arse" before we all huddled together
to congratulate James's goal.
An error by Zhi Han allowed the striker to lob it over him to make
it 2-1 and it presented the Redbacks with a way back into the game.
There was a period when tempers flared, the pressure getting to some
of us and composure was lacking in every department. John was one
of the calmer ones on the pitch as he reminded the Team that we still
had the lead and there was no reason to press the panic button. Jaemes
was as cool as ever, slowing the game down from the back and assuring
all of us it was in our hands as long as we gave our all. Before long,
Benedetto wrestled the game back into our hands, played our usual
game and even before their comeback was on route, we settled the game
through Benson; his maiden goal for Benedetto and may many more come.
Yet another tap in goal from the far post and 3-1 was to be the final
score. Experience showed as several players demonstrated how to play
out a game when leading at a late stage.
Despite the score line, Captain (Coach, rather; for his formal dress
code) was unhappy with the performance. Too many chances were not
taken and it was not the first time that the defense together with
Zhi Han had let the Team down with a slip up. While he highlighted
how pleased he was with particularly Jeremy and Clement for their
diligent tracking backs, he also made it crystal clear that he expected
much more from the Team as a whole. Having got back to the winning
path, the lesson to learn was clear, we have to always be at our best
to win games. There are no two ways about it. Onwards Benedetto~!
Who said What..
Bryan, creating some cautious laughter while the Team was lectured
on the negatives of our game: "Win also kenna scolding..
Lose also kenna scolding.."
Josiah, to Zhi Han who was deeply disappointed with his own performance:
"Very fun right?! To flap at air like a froggy and to be
embarrassed by a lob."
Jaemes, seeing the funny side of Yue Kai's performance: "Kai
is like an Energizer rabbit, we need to find a switch to control his
pace.. else he will chiong chiong chiong!"

Benedetto United was
condemned to its first defeat in 12 games and ended our longest
unbeaten run to date. It was a wake up call that has threatened
to happen in recent weeks. Team performance was a shadow of its
usual self, with everyone taking for granted that all we had to
do was to appear and victory would drop from the sky. We rode our
luck and things were looking rosy (that we were going to be let
off the hook for being complacent) when Wei Jun put us infront with
a clean finish. While we tried albeit without much effort to play
our normal passing game, Blas came with an obvious objective - to
cram the midfield and stop us from playing. Unfortunately, we allowed
them to succeed. Although we showed glimpses of passing and attacking
with intent, we never really got our momentum and was far from what
we were capable of. Their striker robbed the ball off Wei Jie at
the half way line and our high defensive line meant he was going
to be one on one with our hapless goalkeeper and the half ended
1-1.
It was evident to see during half time, everyone knew we were not
playing well enough for our own standards. We upped the tempo and
got our reward almost immediately. Jeremy was set free down the
right and like what he has been doing consistently, put in a delicious
cross that made it so simple for our striker. Wei Jun got his second
goal of the day, heading into the bottom corner and was well on
his way to another hattrick. The third goal came soon after, almost
too soon, when their defenders backed off with the ball at Wei Jun's
feet thirty yards out. Brimming with confidence, he accepted their
invitation and sent a thunderbolt into the roof of the goal. All
Blas could do was clap. What better way to show respect and admiration
for a wonder strike.
What happened after was shameful, to say the least. Thinking that
we were too good for our opponents, that we deserved victory surely,
the Team took its foot off the gas. We shut off as a Team defensively
and somewhat became only interested in putting more into the net
and thrashing our opponents. It was really not about what damage
our opponents could do, they merely played long hopeful balls behind
our backline and let their Jimmy Bullard look alike striker chase
the stray ball. It was really about what we did not do. Put simply,
we took it for granted. When they put one past us to reduce the
deficit, the writing was already on the wall. The rest is history.
For the record, it was the first time in nine months an opponent
has put more than three goals past us, that is how much and why
it hurts.
We got the defeat we truly deserved, a real kick in the backside.
It was a wake up call for all of us. To put it bluntly, Benedetto
was for once, shit, defensively. A real heartache for a
Team that prides itself on a solid defensive base unheard of elsewhere
in the amateur football circle. An extensive Team review was conducted
right after it and the message was clear, we all knew we have let
ourselves and the Team down. We, as a Team has let the good run
of results get to our head. We are determined never to feel this
way again, in Benedetto there is one thing that is very important,
something most important if not as important as anything else -
that no matter win or lose, we always make sure we can walk with
our heads held high after every game knowing that we have given
our all. On this very day, we failed. On this very day we concluded
as a Team never, ever do we want to feel this way again - the feeling
of letting the Team and ourselves down. We have much to learn and
this was another lesson learnt, the hard way. Onwards Benedetto~!
"Every game we play, we make sure they remember.. forever,
the day they played Benedetto."

A thrashing out, a Team effort to put things
right once and for all; a determined showing resulting in a victory
to cap it all up and put things all on the right path again. Everyone
was determined to put the ugly incident behind them the best possible
way, a nice and clean win - and this desire showed on the pitch. Slightly
outplayed in the first half, the Team kept cool and stopped everything
our opponents could throw in our way. The first half finished goalless
and the message was clear during half time Team talk, "Keep to
our game and we will grind out the win." It was no exaggeration
to say the second half was an one-sided affair, had it not been for
the inspired performance of Namdai's goalkeeper, it could have easily
ended 5-0. Not a superb performance, nothing near where we showed
we could do but it was a well deserved victory in the end. Good teams
do not always play at their best to win, sometimes the Team just has
to grind out a result; and we showed we were more than capable of
that.
It is easy to talk all day about it after the incident. It is even
easier when things are going our way in the game. What happens when
everything is against us? We have to learn as a Team, there will still
be such days in future, where one's patience and tolerance gets stretched
to the limit. There will always be one hundred and one reasons to
justify one's action, to make it alright to retaliate. But no, football
was not invented to be like that. There are some who choose to make
it this way. Here in Benedetto, we try to make onlookers respect us
for all the right reasons; and it is going to take a Team effort to
achieve that. Whatever we do, anyone of us, we put Team before self.
Onwards Benedetto~! "Joining Benedetto is like buying
a life time insurance. Regular dividends are the brotherhood, support
for each other in about everything in life and the immense friendship.
The premium? Paid weekly, they come in the form of sweat, energy and
sometimes blood and tears every sunday.. for that two hours. Is it
a worthwhile investment? You tell me." ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________-_______

Benedetto United was definitely cagey going
into our first league game for the year, despite so, the Team was
determined to carry our fine form into the league games. The game
kicked off on a positive note with Benedetto asking most of the questions.
However, numerous forays forward did not yield any results in the
first half. We could have played better if we were just a little more
patient in our build up play, being too eager to push forward led
to one too many lost possessions.
At half time, no words was held back as we were all determined to
make things count in the league once and for all. Unfortunately, things
went against our way early in the 2nd half. Wei Liang's cynical tackle
gave away a free kick on the right flank. The resulting inswinging
free kick and an unmarked opponent headed the ball towards goal and
left Zhi Han rooted to the ground. Although the opponent looked to
be marginally offside, we were not about to make the same mistakes
and let ourselves lose focus over a lost cause. Despite the goal,
Benedetto continued to fight on, determined to grind out a result.
John was brought down just after he had set Clement free on the right
and we were furious as we wanted advantage to be played. Justice was
done though, when Bryan stepped up and scored the equalizer with a
dipping curler to the bottom right corner. Everyone knew that a draw
was not what we wanted. Pushing forward in numbers, we earned a penalty
not long after. Clement did some Noel replicas in the box, the defender
being fooled by his legs and brought him down haplessly. Jaemes calmly
stepped up to score and made it 2-1 despite the enormous amount of
pressure.
Wei Jun sealed the win with a delightful and composed finished after
charging his way past the defenders and drawing the goalkeeper off
his line, 3-1 to Benedetto United. Our opponents threatened late on
and Zhi Han had to be at full stretch to tip a free kick onto the
post. We 'closed shop' and played out the rest of the game with only
one word in mind.. 'Victory'. There was massive cheers when the final
whistle was blown. It was a tremendous team effort today that saw
Benedetto come back from 1-0 to win the game. There is no room for
error and complacency, we all know this is only the baby step that
we have been working towards. Onwards Benedetto~! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________--________________-_______

Welcome to the Grand Opening of Benedetto's
Home Ground! To show our appreciation for your kind attendance, we
will shower you with eight eggs.
Extremely late and not at the least bothered about it, the Garcons
got their punishment when we vented our frustrations on our opponents.
8 goals scored, 3 and 5 in the first and second half respectively,
with no reply from the other side, Benedetto United kept a much cherished
clean sheet. Yet again, we failed to hit top gear right from the start.
Quoting 1st Vice Captain's words, if we are to have any hopes of doing
well in the league, we need to play well right from the start till
the end - there's no two ways about it. Keep going Team, there are
no shortcuts.
Onwards Benedetto~! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________-_______

Lesson learnt: Don't poke fun at your teammate
after he gives away a penalty, especially if he is your blood brother.
Reason: Two weeks later the same shit will happen to you, karma strikes
back!
When our opponents strolled in at 5pm, we saw a mixture of ages, a
team of veterans and youngsters; and all of us were anticipating a
hard fight. However, in a bid to kick our habit of being a second
half team, we had a pretty strenuous but useful 'monkey' warm up.
I dare to say it had a subconscious impact on us as we were at our
very best right from the word go. Wei Jun showed everyone why he was
and still is the most flexible in the team with a acrobatic volley
from a corner. We must have had at least 30 shots in the 90 minutes.
The floodgates opened for us but unfortunately we lost our clean sheet
when the referee deem Wei Liang to have made a illegal challenge in
the box. According to Noel, "Roy Keane would have been proud
of that tackle!"
We kept up the pressure and our opponents barely had a sniff at our
goal. Rumor is Zhi Han actually tried to borrow Sabrina's PSP. Wei
Liang redeemed himself, crossing for Jaemes to head in his 5th goal
to date. At least it is 'half-a-goal' they said to Wei Liang. Bryan
put one more into the memorable goals account with a outer foot curler,
it dipped so rapidly a professional cameraman for epl would not have
been able to catch it on tape. Clement kept up his chase with Jeremy
on the goals chart, Elvin and David both ended their mini drought
and Jo's goal was a collector's item. Onwards Benedetto, We are moving

Going into the break a goal down, Benedetto
needed another 'hair dryer treatment' sort of lecture to turn on the
style. It is starting to become a dangerous habit, we need to keep
our feet on the ground and keep improving despite of whatever results.
We ain't achieve anything yet.
Benedetto grasped control of the game and piled the pressure on the
opponents. Clement cleverly tricked all but Jeremy on the field when
he rolled an indirect free kick to Jeremy instead of letting 2nd Vice
Captain Wei Jun take the shot. A clean, well taken shot burst the
net and we were back on terms. Wei Jun was then felled in the penalty
box and the referee pointed to the spot. This is a snippet of what
happened..
Clement: Can I take it, please?
Noel (clearly remembering Clement's hit-the-woodwork penalty not so
long ago): I rather back heel it then let you take! *Giggles
Jaemes calmly put the penalty away and we were in front, 2-1.
Then came the highlight of the day, for those who have seen Desmond's
memorable 'beat em' all' goal against Team Inpulse at Sembawang secondary,
this time it got even better. With the ball at his feet on the left
side of the field, about 35 yards away, the defenders backed off and
Desmond let fly with a absolute curler with his outer foot. The fully
stretched goalkeeper was hapless, the ball going off the post of the
top right hand corner. Personally, I saw glimpses of Shearer's volley
years back against Everton. Search youtube and you will find it, and
you will understand why I feel so. 3-1 and Benedetto played out the
rest of the game. Good performance, but could have and should be even
better. Keep going, Onwards Benedetto~! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________-_______

It was a day to remember for many wrong
reasons. Wei Liang and Bryan finally ended their yellow card drought,
not something to be happy about. Clement got sent off for swearing
into the air, to the bemusement of everybody watching, including the
opponents. Wen Hao rounded the keeper to open the account. Decisions
went against Benedetto and players were losing their focus, a stern
reminder of their job on hand, to keep their eyes on the ball and
to not argue with referee's decision seem to work well as Yash ended
his goal drought, starting and ending the move with sheer perseverance.
Two goals up and victory was within grasp, so we thought. The fatigue
of waking up at 7am to maintain our home ground got to some of the
players as the opponents drained us out with waves of attack. A misplaced
defensive header and the opponents found a way back into the game.
Their striker broke through our line once again during the dying minutes
and a failed challenge to stop him from shooting meant Wei Jie was
going to give away his penalty of his playing career. Zhi Han guessed
the wrong direction and we have let ourselves down to lose a two goal
lead and only going home with a draw. See, told you it was a day of
records right? Onwards Benedetto~! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________-_______

First of all, Benedetto can finally announce
the official joining of Zhi Han, Benson, Yue Kai and Steven! Welcome
to the family!
The year is drawing to an end, it's the festive period, the team is
heading to the chalet right after the game; needless to say, the festive
mood got to us. Wen Hao continued his fantastic form and got an early
lead for the team. Just when we thought we would get away with being
complacent, a defensive lapse let our opponents a way back into the
game. That, coupled with the ear bashing the team got, the holiday
mood was well out of the window for now.
We got back in front, courtesy of Wen Hao again; and never looked
back. 2nd Vice Captain used his immerse strength to keep defenders
at bay and finished off calmly. Yue Kai, in his proud new no. 18 jersey
scored just after the halfway line but was too embarrassed to celebrate.
Feeling 'provoked', Bryan let go with an even better shot from almost
the same spot as Yue Kai and it went in off the bar. Notably, he did
celebrate, with Yue Kai as well. Cheeky.
By now it was all exhibition football, Steven glided into the penalty
box and saw his shot saved by the goalkeeper, only for Jeremy to instinctively
finish it off. Guest player Kai Feng wrapped it all up with a fantastic
finish from inside the box and Benedetto was well into the festive
mood again.
Chalet was great fun and definitely one to remember. Thanks to everyone
for making the effort, participating and those who generously contributed
- Captain Jo for his personal $250 top up of the budget, some of us
who brought in our own liquor, beer, soft drinks, food and entertainment!
Without you, you, and you, the chalet would have been totally different.
To a better year ahead and more crazy team gatherings, Cheers!

“Unfortunately in football there
is a lot of irrationality. But there's no need to be worried, I'm
not worried." - Silvio Berlusconi, President of A.C Milan
Irrational, unexplainable and illogical are the words that best describe
Benedetto's season. The harsh reality of football is that only the
scoreline after 90 minutes matters and nothing else does; effort,
improvements and good team play unfortunately does not necessarily
equals results in football. We are relegation battlers and thats that.
Benedetto have to keep plugging away, we are all growing, there is
no shortcut. You have to put time into it to build an audience.

An early goal by Jaemes meant Benedetto
got off to a perfect start. We went on to spur several chances to
put the game beyond doubt so early on in the game and was punished
rightfully later for not taking the chances and for our defensive
frailties again, not the first time this season. The half ended with
Benedetto 2-1 down.
An ear bashing session served as a perfect wake up call during half
time as Benedetto finally got its act together again. The Buffaloes
were pushed back into their own half and were under constant pressure
as Benedetto raised the tempo. The equalizer finally came when Desmond
headed towards goal. A last minute cross found three players unmarked
but all missed agonishingly. We must have created enough chances to
end the game with double digits but it was not to be. Good effort
all in all, breaking the bad run as a result of it. Onwards Benedetto~!

A lot of heart but lack of direction summarized
Benedetto's poor start to the season. Put simply, it is just not good
enough yet. The first half saw two very competitive, tough and committed
teams canceling each other out. Chances were at a premium and the
first half ended goalless. Lack of concentration and discipline led
to our Team's second consecutive defeat as Knights capitalized on
their chances and took victory, and rightly so.
Benedetto never gives up and this time will be no different. Every
team goes through it's ups and downs every season; the most important
thing is sticking together as a team, never giving up trying and always,
always putting in 101% and that's true Team Benedetto United style.
And if you ever wondered why you get all frustrated and wounded for
silly amateur sunday football, it was never about that, it's about
why this Team got set up in the first place; Because there was a group
of people who believed a group of football crazy buddies could go
on forever enjoying their football together. That fact, never changed
and will never change, it just enrolled in more and more teammates
and buddies who believe too. For the team, Onwards Benedetto!

Benedetto's season began with last year's
runner up Warriors in the waiting. Our second season is one we have
all been looking forward to, to erase last season's disappointments,
to build on our maiden season's experience and to raise the standards.
In what has been touted as the toughest league amongst all of AFL's,
sunday evening's Premier Division is one where anyone can beat anyone.
With ex-Yv United striker, last season's top scorer joining Warriors
United, they must be considered serious contenders for the throne
this year.
Our Team was desperate for the points though, keeping in mind the
5-1 defeat in our previous meeting with them. However, it was just
one of those days as Benedetto controlled proceedings but Warriors
scored with the two lone shots they had on goal throughout the 90
minutes. James pulled one back with a textbook glancing header from
a near post corner and Wang Di, Jeremy and John all came agonizingly
close to equalizing. In the end, Benedetto only had ourselves to blame
for not capitalizing on our chances and giving away two soft goals
that by Benedetto's defensive standard was outrageous.
Result aside, it was a overall good performance. Plenty of passing
and stark improvement in the much emphasized movements off the ball
meant there was much to look forward to this season. A clean, pretty
and entertaining game to watch where both sides gave each other due
respect for their own unique brand of football. The season is looking
good and the feeling in the team is even better! Onwards Benedetto!
