Benedetto welcomed back Ted from the clutches of the 'A' level examinations but that was arguably the only thing to cheer about at the end of the day. James scored again from a corner, leading by one goal at the break, with both Yash and Wei Jun hitting the post, Benedetto crumbled in spectacular fashion in the second half. Lacking discipline, we were too eager to score, forgetting our most efficient way of playing football - holding possession and hitting opponents once there is an opening. Without doubt, everyone was disappointed after the game. James injured himself and it does seem like our ever present manager will have to sit out the next coming game. A poor overall performance by all standards and something that should never be repeated again.

In case you failed to realize, Benedetto battled with only nine men from the start and John only came in towards the end of the first half. The numerical disadvantaged quickly told as a through ball put through a gap in the center let the opponent's striker score the opening goal of the game. Yash and Jeremy was thrown up front to run the channels, feeding from scraps and to do as much damage as they could. In the end the youngest amongst us, Jeremy, stole the limelight. Scoring from a position players would normally be expected to cross, catching the keeper by surprise with a curling, dipping shot from the left wing, falling into the top right hand corner. Putting in extra effort to make up for the numerical disadvantage soon took its toll as chances rarely came and Benedetto played it out for a hard-earned draw.

We fortunately avoided the haze with the psi dropping drastically, safe enough for the game to get underway. But it was not to be a day without scares, Wang Di tweaked his ankle during warm up and was a real doubt to feature. He did not make it into the starting eleven, needing more time to run off his injury. He did however, play in the later stages of the game. The team also welcomed back the five young ones from their exams, Wen Hao, Wei Jie, Wang Di, Jeremy and Laffyette. Now it is only down to you, Ted. We are behind you!

The first half was not to be, messy and the team play was poor and unacceptable by Benedetto's standards. Though we had a large share of the possession and limited the opponents to half chances, we did not make full use of the possession we had. Long balls were too often finding their way to our opponents instead and our strikers was starved of any sort of service. Paul Scholes, no, John was brought on towards the end of the half, changing the team's formation from 4-4-2 to 4-5-1. To really sum up how bad the first half was, we got punished for complacency when we got robbed of possession near our penalty box and the well driven shot gave fully-stretched Aaron no chance. Against the run of play but probably the best wake up call too.

The team got a sneak preview of the renowned 'hair-dryer' treatment during half-time, getting a reminder of just what is the least expected of them. Words were spoken during the break, some positive exchanges between individuals. The team came out knowing that they had to improve. It took 2 minutes, David was put through after our midfield hassled and dispossessed the opponent somewhere just after the half way line. David needed no second invitation and duly slammed the ball home into the roof. Usual service resumed from there as we stuck to our short pass, keep the ball kind of play. The midfield trio dictated the pace and worked with the defense to shut out any forms of attack they threw at us. The offensive players, Wang Di, Wei Jie, Yash, David and Laffyette worked their socks off to start our defensive stance right from the attack line.

The other goals came through David who grabbed the chance with both hands when their goalkeeper and defender mixed up, David only had to place the ball nicely into the goal. Wang Di added to the goals with another of his breath taking trademark runs, leaving the full back for dead and out pacing the covering center back. His second came in the form of a wicked deflection of their defender and sneaking in just under the crossbar. John erased his disappointment of not being in the midfield from the start and also not in attack! Meaning - he was benched. He was obviously happy to get on the score sheet at the end of the day.

A third consecutive win, another different point proven though. That Benedetto can, and will come from behind to win games if needed. Same old words of wisdom, all too often we make a small improvement and we have been in this position before (after a good win), before we know it we will be brought back down to earth. So, keep working on it Benedetto. Progress stops once you think you are good enough. Onwards Benedetto.

Note that Benedetto made use of this friendly match to tinker with a few options, namely 4-1-2-1-1 (diamond shaped midfield), 4-3-3 (with two offensive wingers) and 4-5-1. It was a huge turnout, 18 players in all. Zhi Yang, Ted, Wen Hao, Jeremy and Wang Di taking a breather from their studies.

All looked well as Benedetto kept it extremely tight in midfield and our opponents hardly got past our tireless midfield trio. The youngsters were given more playing time and as always they duly justified their place in the first eleven. Zhong He and Kah Yeu too, looked sharper by the games. Zhi Yang and Ted was as reliable as always. Notably, Captain never changed out of his comfortable bermudas and slippers, and Wei Liang only got 15 minutes of play, but, b-u-t, he did managed to dent the opponents crossbar with a ferocious half volley from a corner. Wang Di's opener was a typical trademark from him, an amazing run from our own half to the goal, slotting in comfortably when faced with the goalkeeper one on one. Wei Jun added two of his own, two well taken blast into the goal. Sandwiched in between his goals, Bryan was controversially judged to have brought down their striker in the box. A well placed penalty meant Aaron stood no chance.

Though Benedetto seem to differ from their usual hard and fast approach when adopting these new formations, it added a new dimension to our play. One of control and possession, wingers were given more freedom to attack and Bryan, Noel and John on their day looks as good as anyone has seen around. Nothing to feel great about though, all too often we make a small improvement and we have been in this position before (after a good win), before we know it we will be brought back down to earth. So, keep working on it Benedetto. Progress stops once you think you are good enough. Onwards Benedetto.

It was smiles all round as Benedetto trounced the minnows in spectacular fashion. Observers commented that a victory was inevitable, but no one expected something of this measure. And there was a handful of reasons to be happy about, the team welcomed back Grand Marshall, Kah Yeu. James scored again, Wei Jun laid some ghosts to rest with a well deserved hattrick, Josiah and Wei Liang finally ended their one-yellow-every-match streak, phew.

The first goal did not take too long to come when Noel shot from just outside the penalty box and the goalkeeper was well beaten after the shot took a wicked deflection off the defender. Keeping focus and sticking to our tasks, Benedetto was superior in almost every department. However, against the run of play, the opponent's striker was allowed too much time on the ball and shook Benedetto's confidence with a well placed long range shot. It did not take long for Benedetto to regain the lead though, when David's shot from inside the box went hard and nice into the roof of the net. Yash ended his mini goal drought with a low driven shot into the bottom corner of the goal and created another by winning a penalty. Sensing that a slaughter could be well on our hands, Benedetto slammed the floodgates open as the half ended 7-1.

Benedetto remained firm in the driving seat in the second half and never looked troubled, but found it hard to find the same sort of momentum and cutting edge. Wen Hao hit the crossbar and the post with two well crafted chances, Wang rattled the crossbar too. Wei Jun completed his hattrick towards the end of the game and Wang Di ended the goal feast with a header from a nicely floated Wen Hao cross, Wang Di's second of the night.

Captain demanded a comfortable win, he got 9-1, biggest win in Benedetto history. Wei Jun was told he must score, he did it three times and shot a dozen others. I love it when it drizzles and everything is wet and cool, don't you?

For the second straight week, Benedetto twice lost the lead and had a player sent off. Though inferior to Combine West Coast in terms of league position, Ex-JI proved to be slightly tougher opponents than Combine West Coast. There was a early scare for us their striker had a one-on-one situation with our goalkeeper Jun Jie, who made himself as big as possible and made a fantastic save. James was on hand to clear away the rebound, preventing any danger.

Playing in his favored position, Benedetto took the lead through Wang Di when the goalkeeper's save from his shot fell nicely for him to roll the ball into the net. Ex-JI piled the pressure in search of an equalizer but was limited to only half chances and long range shots. An expertly executed free kick curled round Benedetto's wall into the top corner. No goalkeeper on earth would have kept that out.

The loudest cheers of the day was reserved for the goal starved center back, James. The defender trotted forward for a corner, it was an out swinger and James out jumped his marker to lob a header over the stranded goalkeeper. It was good to have the energetic youngsters back with us as they take a break from their exam stress. Wen Hao looked every bit an experienced defender in an unfamiliar left back role, Jeremy and Laffyette provided much attacking options down the flanks with their pace and willingness to attack. Wei Jie almost sealed the game for us when he hit post from an acute angle. Unfortunately, set pieces prove to be Benedetto's undoing yet again as the opponents equalized from a corner towards the end of the match.

Combine West Coast came into this match as hot favorites, having lost only once so far, winning all the other matches. Losing 1-0 to them in the last meeting between this two teams, Benedetto was expecting a tight match. Up till the first goal, the match was largely uneventful with both defenses canceling out each other. It took an impressive string of passes, between Bryan and David on the right flank, a neat one-two between David and John, leaving John inside the penalty box with a clear sight on goal. He picked his spot and slammed it into the goal, out of reach for the keeper. 1-0 to Benedetto at the break.

Credit to both team on an incredibly hot day, the match was played competitively but in a sporting manner. How the referee managed to dish out 8 yellows and 2 cards baffles everyone. The referee's inconsistency in decision making and the opponent's inability to break down Benedetto boiled over when having been shown a yellow, one of our opponent headbutted the referee in retaliation. He was subsequently shown a second yellow and word has it that he has been banned from the entire tournament.

Combine West Coast equalize through their lightning quick winger with a well placed goal. Pushing for a second and the win, our opponents left holes at the back for our strikers to exploit and David made it count when he shot into the bottom left corner from a counter attack. The celebrations were barely over when Combine West Coast equalize the second time in the game, from a free kick. David had a strong shout for penalty kick in the last minute when he was clearly hacked down from the back with a open goal. The referee's decision let the game down, again. In the end both team share the spoils in a game where no one deserved to lose but Benedetto will definitely see it as two points lost rather than a point gained.

Playing a very high back-line Raven invited Benedetto to attack, the invitation was gladly accepted when Zhi Yang played a decisive ball into the path of Wang - who was clearly onside - as he broke clear. Racing down the left, Wang slide the ball across goal for Wei Jun to end his goal drought (17' min). 15 minutes later, Raven pushed up hoping to catch the strikers offside, only for Wang to race through with the ball himself. Faced one-on-one with the keeper, he kept his cool as he danced his way past the goalkeeper with a side step before firing into the empty net (32' min). The first half ended at 2-0.

The second half prove to be a messy affair as both team fought hard to win the midfield battle, chances came far and few between. After losing one of their striker to a red card following a silly shove on Noel in the 65th minute, their fate was sealed when Wei Jun added a third, a looping header for Benedetto (85' min).

Benedetto started the game with an unfamiliar face in defense, Bryan taking over Josiah's berth, who was down with flu. He prove to a more than able replacement as the team kept another clean sheet, he ended his goal drought and assisted John for our second. It was to be another disciplined team effort as Benedetto stuck to its task and churned out another victory. However, it was the opponents who looked more likely to score at the beginning, with their quick passing and excellent movements in attack. They slightly worried the defense but once or twice when they did, Chong Aik was on hand to put them off. It seems Chong Aik has a point to prove after James's spectacular clean sheet.

We soon got going after ten minutes, passing about with ease and as usual focusing our attacks through the flanks. Bryan's vision was to be a problem for our opponents all day long, Noel and John going about their job protecting the defense and spreading neat passes in midfield. After both sides had missed a succession of chances, Bryan broke the deadlock curling a superb free kick into the top right hand corner. The goal keeper only stood still, he had no chance. Wang Di won the free kick for us, he has proven once again that often the only way to stop his mazy runs is to take him down. The half ended with Benedetto soaking up the pressure as Kelana Purba pushed forward for the equalizer.

Coming out after the break, Benedetto looked the stronger side as our opponents were pegged back into their own half. However, they had two quick strikers on who had to be watched closely whenever on the break. There were several warning signs about just what they were capable of, missing two half chances to equalize. Midway through the half, Bryan launched a long free kick into the box, Kelana Purba's defensive line stunt by David's dummy run and John was onside and on hand to lob the ball over a hapless goalkeeper. John, another one to end his mini goal drought. Two nil up and with 20 minutes to go, Jun Jie came in for Wen Hao, adding a more defensive touch to the midfield. Kelana Purba poured forward in search of goals, only to be limited to long shots and half chances. Frustration got to them as four yellow cards were dished out in quick succession, three of them for tackles on Noel. We had one of our own, Wei Jie, already out doing his brother Wei Liang in the goals column, looks to beat him in the cards column too. An unwarranted yellow card for a shoulder charge on the defender, it puzzled us all.

Kelana Purba gave it a real go but Benedetto's first goal helped us take command of the game and the longer it went the less likely it appeared that our opponents would save themselves. John's strike ended the contest and left Benedetto looking forward to next week's Fairfield Past vs Present games. A second clean sheet in the last 3 games, we could not have asked for better preparations.

It proved to be a frustrating day for Benedetto from beginning to end. Reading the clock seem too high a task for our opponents. 3.30pm: Finally! We see 2 of their players strolling in. Their sunday rest and relax stroll continued all the way till 3.45pm, players of theirs coming in drip and drabs. A few of the Benedetto lads' patience were running thin. We had always taken effort to be on time and it isn't exactly a great feeling to have to wait an hour for your opponents to arrive. Their excuse being not knowing where Bt. Timah field is. So, its the map interpreting and navigation skill, not clock reading problem. Under bizarre conditions, the game got going with Josiah and Wei Jie joining them to make up the numbers.

Restlessness hit Benedetto as we found it hard to hit any sort of rhythm or move out of first gear. Our usual hard and fast approach was no where to be seen. After 15mins, our opponents finally had enough to field a proper team. The half ended goalless, with Benedetto at its reliable defensive self, canceling out long balls and bursts down the flanks from the opponents.
Benedetto came out in the second half the stronger team despite injury to Chong Aik depriving us of our first choice custodian. James once again had to fill up as a emergency goalkeeper and Captain Jo filling up James's berth in defense. Opting to switch to a 4-3-3 formation to accommodate the midfield trio of Bryan, Noel and John. Dominating with quick passes all around the field, it was against the run of play that our opponents scored with a wicked deflection off Ted in a counter attack (49' min). We pushed forward in search of an equalizer and was rewarded after a trademark mazy run down the right by Wand Di, Elvin being at the right place at the right time to tap in after the goalkeeper had saved a slide shot from Wang (59' min). Craving for more, Benedetto had 2 goals ruled out for offside in quick succession. Justified?

Frustration got to our opponents as they were constantly under pressure, pegged back into their half for most periods. Bryan and John dictating the play and Noel, almost back at his very best, breaking up any form of danger. Reckless tackles flew in thick and fast at Benedetto players. What else do you expect? (64' min) Wei Liang got his third yellow of the year as he flew into a crunching tackle taking nothing but the player, a reminder to our opponents just what they are trifling with.

The opponent's No. 14 was clearly having a bad day as he blew his top after fair tackles by Noel and Wei Liang consecutively. The inexperienced China referee was in danger of losing control. Straight from a throw-in, the opponent's striker took an aimless swipe at the ball. Unfortunately for Benedetto, James could only touch it onto the crossbar to his best efforts and their player was on hand to sweep it in (74' min).

Continuing to push forward for the rest of the game, the last minute of the game just about sum up a frustrating outing for Benedetto. John, clearly brought down in the box, was instead awarded a freekick at the edge of the box. An undeserving defeat but a fighting display nonetheless.

Benedetto are working up a head of steam which must worry the great and the good in the sunday league, giving a fearsome show of attacking strength as they swept aside their friendly game opponents 6-0. The flow of goals began with Wang Di and the half ended shortly at 2-0 after the same player doubled the lead. Determined to erase the previous week's nightmare, there was no respite for our opponents after the break as the flood gates opened. Wang Di completed his hattrick with a well placed penalty after David had sprung the offside trap and was taken down in the box. John had graciously passed the penalty taking duty to Wang Di for him to complete his hattrick. The goal takes Wang Di's goal ratio to an impressive 1 goal per game. Goals from Wei Jie and Yash soon followed as Benedetto was rewarded for solid defending and lightning quick counter-attacking. The unknown team were stunned and their opponents looked on a different level. Noel completed the rout two minutes from time to put the seal on a breathtaking display from Benedetto. It must be mentioned that, credit to James for volunteering to play as the emergency goalkeeper, notably putting off the striker to miss a penalty and helping Benedetto to keep its first clean sheet for a long long time. This must have boosted the morale of the much maligned defense, keeping the team in good momentum for its next game.

In a game with many chances for Benedetto, hearts were broken when Raven scored their equaliser in the 90th minute of gameplay. Benedetto enjoyed the better part of possession with tactics and teamwork superior to the opponents. Some members of the opponents were seen to be wearing the national team jersey, and jerseys of certain JCs, like NJC. Their through-ball, burst-through-the-defence tactics proved to be no match for Benedetto's offside traps, and they were lucky that Benedetto did not capitalise on the numerous open chances that were created.
